Job Description

Join a high-performing Mainframe Support team responsible for the stability and enhancement of business-critical store applications. The role provides exposure to multiple business domains including Finance, Inventory, Pricing, and Receiving while supporting more than 1,200 enterprise mainframe jobs. Team members are encouraged to identify improvement opportunities, contribute to application enhancements, and leverage emerging technologies such as AI and automation to improve operational efficiency. This position offers a unique combination of operational ownership, technical depth, innovation, and collaboration within a globally distributed 24-hour support organization. The Mainframe Team is a high-performing, highly collaborative group responsible for supporting some of the most critical business processes across Walmart's store ecosystem. The team provides operational and application support for a broad portfolio of systems spanning Finance, Inventory Management, Pricing, Receiving, and other core store operations, ensuring stability and reliability for business-critical workloads. Supporting more than 1,200 mainframe jobs, the team plays a vital role in maintaining the flow of data and transactions that enable stores to operate efficiently every day. Team members work across multiple domains, gaining exposure to diverse business functions and technologies while developing deep expertise in enterprise-scale systems. The team's culture emphasizes ownership and continuous improvement, encouraging members to support applications, identify opportunities for process optimization, influence application enhancements, and drive meaningful change across the platforms they support. The team regularly partners with development, product, and business stakeholders to improve operational effectiveness and customer outcomes. As emerging technologies continue to transform support operations, the team is actively exploring and implementing AI-driven solutions to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, accelerate problem resolution, and improve overall service quality. This creates unique opportunities for engineers to combine traditional mainframe expertise with modern automation and AI capabilities. The team operates with a 24-hour follow-the-sun support model, with coverage shared between Bentonville (BV) and IDC teams. This structure provides continuous support while maintaining predictable schedules, with BV and IDC teams each covering dedicated 12-hour shifts. Immigration Sponsorship support is NOT available for this role. This isn't a traditional support role. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of enterprise mainframe environments with experience in COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, Control M, Scheduler, and batch processing
  • Strong understanding of next generation data platforms to include GCP, SQL Server
  • Proven ability to analyze complex application flows
  • Troubleshoot production issues
  • Collaborate with development teams to support modernization initiatives
  • Experience with automation, process improvement, and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted operational solutions
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
  • OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies
  • Experience integrating digital accessibility seamlessly
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices
  • Experience following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture
