The ViaSat Access Edge Terminal Software team is responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of software running on embedded satellite terminal products (Ka-band, L-band, 5G) that are used in aviation, maritime, residential and other sectors. You’ll be a software engineer working as part of a software team with a technical lead. You will be engaging & collaborating with other software teams working on embedded software, to achieve development, design, quality and agility goals. This is a site‑based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or equivalent in computer science or computer engineering and relevant coursework in computer science
- Experience in hands-on software development or relevant school projects, using C/C++
- Proven experience with Linux/UNIX
- Hands-on experience with Objected Oriented methodology & development
- Experience with using AI tooling in software development
- Strong analytical skills & ability to evaluate software design, including existing codebases
- Strong sense of ownership
- Excellent communication skills
- US Citizenship or permanent residence required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using C/C++.
- Experience with Linux and bare-metal programming for embedded systems.
- Experience writing unit tests for C/C++.
- Understanding of multiheaded programming and applications.
- Linux HW peripheral driver development and linux kernel development.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., git).
- Make systems, particularly CMake.
- Posix and Bash shell scripting.
- Being detail oriented with strong analytical problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate and communicate in a team environment.
- Coursework and familiarity with RF and satellite communications principles.
