Job Description
The Azure Storage team powers some of the world's largest and most sophisticated cloud storage systems, operating at a scale that spans exabytes today and is rapidly advancing toward zettabyte and yottabyte-scale demands. We are at the forefront of storage innovation, developing advanced hardware offloads, performance accelerations, distributed storage architectures, and next-generation networking technologies that enable Microsoft's cloud platform to deliver industry-leading performance, reliability, and efficiency. Our engineering teams work across block storage, object storage, file systems, hardware acceleration, transport performance, and large-scale systems integration to build the foundation that powers Azure services around the globe. As a Principal Software Engineer on Azure Storage, you will help define the technical direction for some of the most complex and business-critical components of Azure Storage. You will drive architectural decisions, lead the development of breakthrough capabilities, and deliver continuous improvements that enhance reliability, scalability, performance, consistency, and debuggability at hyperscale. This role offers the opportunity to work with the latest server technologies and highly distributed systems while partnering across teams to solve challenging engineering problems that directly influence the future of cloud storage. Your technical leadership will help shape services that support billions of transactions and massive amounts of customer data worldwide. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience designing, building and running large scale and highly available Cloud services or distributed systems.
