Job Description
The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer (Developer) to join the Experimental Systems Group Telemetry & Command Database team in Seal Beach, CA. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Experienced Software Engineers. This role is ideal for a software engineer who enjoys working close to hardware and mission operations, cares about data correctness and performance, and wants to grow into a domain expert in spacecraft/flight test telemetry and command systems. This team develops and sustains the data backbone that connects spacecraft, flight-test systems, ground systems, laboratories, and mission operations. Our telemetry and command databases transform complex system interfaces into trusted, usable data products—enabling engineers and operators to understand system performance, send the right commands, and make informed decisions throughout integration, test, and operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of software, databases, hardware interfaces, and mission operations. The successful candidate will help define how telemetry and command data is modeled, validated, accessed, distributed, and maintained across multiple environments. The selected candidate will work closely with systems engineers, flight software developers, test engineers, database specialists, and operations teams to turn interface control documents and mission requirements into reliable, high-performance software and data solutions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- 1+ years’ experience in software development using either Java, C++, or Python
- 1+ years’ experience operating in an Agile development environment
- 1+ years' experience with Relational Databases such as SQL-Server, Oracle, Teradata
- Experience with Linux and windows development
- Requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
- Must satisfy the Company's Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
- Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 3: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience
- Experience developing software or database solutions for telemetry, command, flight-test, spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical systems
- Experience designing data models for complex engineering or operational data
- Experience with SQL optimization, indexing, query planning, schema migrations, stored procedures, views, constraints, and transaction management
- Experience developing REST APIs, data-access services, command-line utilities, ETL workflows, or automation scripts
- Experience with ORMs, NoSQL databases, data validation frameworks, CI/CD, containerization, or deployment automation
- Experience modeling data involving units, calibrations, limits, enumerations, bit fields, packet structures, command parameters, and versioned metadata
- Familiarity with automated data-quality checks, schema validation, regression testing, observability, and data-performance metrics
- Knowledge of software architecture, requirements derivation and traceability, configuration management, change control, verification and validation, and full-lifecycle software development
- Knowledge of host environments, operating systems, networks, software integration, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with software development and testing tools, including compilers, linkers, debuggers, data-analysis tools, requirements-management tools, and post-processing applications
- Knowledge of software systems and products that influence architecture, interfaces, integration, and test approaches, including aircraft, missile, space, airborne, shipboard, and ground-support systems
