Job Description

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) is seeking a Software Engineering, Lead (Software Engineering Manager) to lead feature‑level execution and guide a small team within our dealer and consumer digital platforms. This role balances hands‑on engineering with technical leadership and delivery ownership and includes people management responsibilities where applicable. The ideal candidate is a strong engineer who can design and deliver high‑quality solutions, mentor others, and ensure features are production‑ready, scalable, and aligned with Toyota's engineering standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of features or services in production.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing Java-based services using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST, GraphQL, and event-driven APIs in enterprise environments.
  • Practical AWS experience, including ECS, Fargate, serverless components, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience building and supporting highly available, customer-facing applications and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on frontend experience with modern frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue, with the ability to review, troubleshoot, and contribute to UI components when needed.
  • Strong understanding of full-stack application design, including optimizing APIs for UI consumption, latency, payload efficiency, and clear interface contracts.
  • Understanding of application data flows, including how feature-level data is persisted, exchanged through APIs and events, and consumed across systems.
  • Strong quality mindset with experience in automated, functional, integration, and performance testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production-support skills, including observability, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive, lending, financial services, or digital commerce, particularly dealer or loan-origination platforms.
  • Experience designing event-driven and distributed architectures supporting high-volume transactional systems.
  • Experience balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated contributions to engineering standards, platform modernization, developer experience, or broader engineering culture.
