Job Description
Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Software Engineer to develop high-performance applications and backend systems supporting advanced sensor and mission systems. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building performant software today while growing into broader system-level and real-time development over time. Leidos Defense Systems Sector provides a diverse portfolio of systems, solutions, and services covering land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace for customers worldwide. Solutions for Defense include enterprise and mission IT, large-scale intelligence systems, command and control, geospatial and data analytics, cybersecurity, logistics, training, and intelligence analysis and operations support. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science degree from an ABET-accredited school
- 8+ years of experience in software development
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Strong fundamentals in modern C++
- Experience with Linux-based systems
- Experience with higher-level user application development
- Experience working in performance-sensitive, distributed, or systems-oriented applications
- Experience with multithreaded or concurrent programming
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with messaging frameworks (e.g., ZeroMQ or similar)
- Experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to radar, RF, or sensor systems
- Experience with tools such as MATLAB or similar for analysis or prototyping
- Experience with Python
- Experience with Flask, Angular TS, and SCSS
- Experience with SQL-based Databases
- Familiarity with mapping / GIS frameworks (ArcGIS, Openlayers, Mapproxy, Worldwind, etc)
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code)
