Key Highlights
- Managing and performing professional architectural work relating to the form, strength, stability, and performance of marine structures and waterborne vessels.
- Conducting detailed Structural Analyses and Finite Element Analyses (FEA) to ensure the integrity of hull and deck arrangements.
- Developing complex Rigging, Cargo Handling, and Lifesaving Systems Analyses alongside Weight and Moment Reports.
- Performing Hydrostatics, Intact and Damage stability calculations, and Inclining Experiment Calculations to verify vessel safety.
- Executing Mooring Studies, Material Analyses, Weld and Connection Analyses, and Vibration Analyses for diverse naval crafts.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
- 7+ years of experience with specialized vessels in one or more of the following areas: Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessels (T-EPF), Hospital Ships (T-AH), Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships (T-AKE), Underway Replenishment Oilers (T-AO), Cable Laying/Repair (T-ARC), Rescue/Salvage Ships (T-ARS), Submarine Tender (T-AS), Fleet Ocean Tugs (T-ATF), Command Ship (LCC), Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB), Fast Combat Support Vessels (T-AOE) or like vessels
- Significant experience with vessel stability calculations, mooring analysis, towing plans, ship salvage, and dry-docking operations
- Expertise in complex hull structures, arrangements, outfitting, and structural analysis
- Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) and closed-form solutions for maritime platforms
- Experience with Optimoor and FEMAP/ANSYS (or similar software), MathCAD, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
- Self-starter with excellent people skills – able to work across teams and drive change throughout the MSC engineering organization.
- An active Secret clearance is required for this position.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, climb ladder wells on vessels, etc.
- Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve attending meetings.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
