Job Description
The Software Engineer III will be responsible for identifying business problems and developing solutions through analytics, big data analytics, and automation. This role involves supporting the development of business cases, owning project delivery, and contributing to process updates. The engineer will solve business issues, support data governance documentation and implementation, and apply strategic principles to routine business problems. Key activities include extracting and transforming data, developing data pipelines, staying current with data science trends, and understanding requirements and service level agreements. The role also involves identifying suitable data sources, performing data quality checks, analyzing complex data elements for data modeling, developing logical and physical data models (including data warehouse and data mart designs), defining relational tables, and evaluating existing data models. Additionally, the engineer will develop efficient data flows, analyze data-related system integration challenges, create training documentation, and train end-users. This position will oversee less experienced programmers, provide system troubleshooting support, write code for solutions and application features, create and execute test cases, develop proofs of concept, test code, and deploy software to production. The role requires contributing code documentation, maintaining playbooks, and providing progress updates. The engineer must demonstrate up-to-date expertise, apply it to action plans, provide expert advice, align efforts with business needs, and build commitment for perspectives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, or a related field; OR Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, or a related field plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or related experience.
- Programming in an object-oriented programming language (Python or Scala)
- Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL queries
- Designing and developing data pipelines, including managing file transfers to and from cloud storage and performing data transformations
- Implementing and managing CI/CD processes and integrating them with data processing, Data warehouse and orchestration platforms
- ETL and data warehousing concepts, including developing Spark applications to perform ETL processes from various data sources to the data warehouse
- Technical discovery and requirements analysis and ensuring consistent technical delivery through testing and peer code reviews
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues in data pipelines, Spark jobs, and cluster operations
- Big data ecosystems, governance, storage, scalability
- Diagnosing and addressing complex technical issues and system performance bottlenecks
- Documenting troubleshooting processes and solutions for knowledge sharing and future reference
- Cloud-based big data platforms and services
- Spark best practices and performance optimization techniques
