Software Engineer

RTA is an AI-forward company seeking a Software Engineer III to help build solutions that keep customers' fleets rolling. This role involves crafting scalable, high-quality code, performing insightful code reviews, and ensuring system security and reliability. The ideal candidate is a force multiplier who can independently close loops, own incidents end-to-end, and delete unnecessary code. A key requirement is demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools, working agentically with tools like Claude Code or Codex for multi-file refactors and migrations, and having shipped LLM-backed features. The candidate should understand the consequences of AI in production, such as nondeterministic output, token costs, latency, and the need for guardrails. They must also be able to evaluate AI feature improvements and know when not to use AI for critical, deterministic tasks. Experience with Docker for containerization and AWS for hosting/deployment, along with familiarity with GitHub, REST APIs, and SOA principles, is expected. The role requires collaboration with product managers, developers, and QA, and the ability to write secure, maintainable, well-documented code. The candidate must be able to respond calmly and quickly to last-minute changes and communicate effectively with concise, solutions-oriented feedback.
